Jacques Wirtgen appointed General Manager of GreenFacts
Brussels, 18 March 2008. Until late 2007, Jacques Wirtgen was director of the Royal Institute for Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and the Promotion of clean Technologies (IRGT-KINT). While managing IRGT-KINT for seven years, he acquired a profound knowledge of environmental issues, and established contacts with many important stakeholders and organizations in Belgium and abroad. Born in Comines (Belgium), he graduated in 1971 as civil engineer from the Belgian Royal Military Academy – Polytechnics Faculty. He graduated from the Royal High Institute for Defense (RHID) in Brussels and the “Ecole Supérieure de Guerre” in Paris. In the nineties, he served in the European forces in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia, before becoming advisor to the Belgian Minister of Defense, in charge of international organizations (UNO, NATO, WEU) in the field of peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. As Brigadier General in 1997, he was assigned to the Military Staff at NATO Headquarters, in charge of cooperation for "Partnership for Peace Programme" and "Mediterranean Dialogue". He left the army at the end of 1999 to become director of IRGT-KINT the following year. Jacques Wirtgen replaces Dr Patrick G. Poty who left GreenFacts in view of becoming General Manager of an other organization. Dr. Poty remains active as a member of GreenFacts.About GreenFacts GreenFacts is an independent, multi-stakeholder non-profit organization based in Belgium, created in 2001 by individuals from scientific institutions, environmental and health organizations, as well as from the business world. Members and Directors represent the different stakeholders in a balanced manner.
