Brussels, 13 December 2004. The possibility that Mr Victor Yushchenko’s health problems may be chloracne, a skin disease which can be caused by dioxins, has been in the media spotlight. For those needing further information on dioxin health effects, we are pleased to announce that a reliable and comprehensible source of information is freely available on http://www.greenfacts.org/dioxins/ (English), http://www.greenfacts.org/fr/dioxines/ (Français) & http://www.greenfacts.org/es/dioxinas/ (Español).

There are thousands of scientific papers on the health effects of dioxins and related compounds. However, probably the most comprehensive international consensus monograph on the subject was published in 1998 by the WHO (World Health Organization).

To make the content of this consensus document accessible to the non-specialist, GreenFacts has published a faithful summary on the internet. Organized as questions and answers in a three level structure of increasing details, this summary provides the answer to many questions related to dioxins. It was written by scientists in collaboration with the GreenFacts staff and carefully reviewed by well recognized international experts under the authority of the GreenFacts independent Scientific Board.
