Brussels, December 8, 2003. Coinciding with the high-level COP9 Climate Change discussions in Milan, GreenFacts is releasing the Spanish version of its website www.greenfacts.org/es/ , which contains a study providing clear unbiased Scientific Facts on Climate Change and Global Warming.

"This move is in line with our organization's strategy of improving the access and use of scientific information for non-specialists such as policymakers, journalists, teachers and stakeholders" states GreenFacts Foundation General Manager, Jacques de Selliers. "Through GreenFacts, Spanish speakers are able to benefit from comprehensible summaries of authoritative scientific documents in their native language."

The first Spanish GreenFacts study , "Scientific Facts on Climate Change and Global Warming" , is based on the Third Assessment Report published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Like other GreenFacts summaries, it presents the issues in a series of questions and answers in three levels of increasing detail. This allows the reader to start with a short summary answer, click on Level Two for more details and refer to the IPCC document itself in Level Three.

"What is unique to the Spanish version are the links to other major science-based information sources in the Spanish-speaking world" notes Nicolás Honorato Cavadas, GreenFacts Science Editor, responsible for this translation. "GreenFacts has an opportunity to play a role in the Spanish-based dialogue surrounding environment and health issues."

The site, www.greenfacts.org , is now available in three languages: English, French and Spanish. German and Italian versions are being considered for 2004.

GreenFacts Foundation asbl is a non-profit organization based in Brussels that summarizes on the Internet authoritative scientific documents on environment and health matters in a language accessible to non-specialists. It was formed in December 2001 by stakeholders from the academe, industrial groups and environmental NGOs concerned about the difficulties of communicating scientific information on environment and health issues. More information can be found at www.greenfacts-organization.org.
