GreenFacts Newsletter - March 2009
World Forestry Day & Energy
March 21st marks not only the beginning of spring, but also World Forestry Day which GreenFacts celebrates with a new Digest on Forests & Energy.
What role could forests play in future energy supply? And what impacts will an increased use of biofuels have? The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) called upon GreenFacts to provide the general public with a plain-language version of its 2008 report on "Forests and Energy, Key Issues".
Overall energy perspectives are also tackled in the new GreenFacts Digest on Energy Technologies based on a recent report produced by the International Energy Agency.
Many languages at World Water Forum

For this occasion we have translated our Digest on Water Resources into Arabic, Chinese, and Turkish, in addition to the existing English, French, Spanish, and Dutch versions. Translated leaflets in printable format are available here.

Groundbreaking Mercury Treaty
In late February 2009, at the Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Nairobi, more than 140 countries agreed to negotiate a legally binding treaty aimed at slashing the releases of the toxic heavy metal mercury. Learn more about mercury and its risks by reading the GreenFacts Digest on Mercury.
A wealth of resources
During 2008, GreenFacts produced many more plain language summaries of international scientific reports, notably
In the coming weeks and months, we will post additional information on Malaria, Energy-saving lamps & health, Phthalates, Electromagnetic Fields, Biofuels, etc. on www.greenfacts.org.
