GreenFacts Newsletter - September 2005New Digests at GreenFacts.org: GreenFacts has just released a new online Digest on Air Pollution, gathering the scientific facts on three air pollutants: nitrogen dioxide, ozone, and particulate matter. In October 2005 the World Health Organization (WHO) will reconsider current air quality guidelines. Does the latest research warrant new standards to better protect our health? GreenFacts at the "Communicating European Research" conference: Next 14-15 November 2005, the second edition of the conference "Communicating European Research" (CER-2005) will take place at the Brussels Exhibition Centre (Heysel). GreenFacts will be sharing a stand with its partner EurActiv; we look forward to seeing you there and to discussing science communication issues with you. Translating scientific documents: Earlier
this year, GreenFacts collaborated with the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment
to summarize its General Synthesis Report. The Millennium Assessment
is an extensive scientific report on ecosystem change prepared by 1,300
experts from 95 countries. It encompassed a series of previous
research on issues such as desertification, biodiversity, and wetlands.
It confirms that virtually all of Earth’s ecosystems
have been significantly transformed through human actions, especially
in the last 50 years. It also proposes some actions to limit the harmful
consequences of these changes.
