GreenFacts Newsletter - 24 September 2004

Over the summer, GreenFacts has published several new Digests and refreshed its website. As the organization begins to grow rapidly, it is opening up to more direct stakeholder engagement. If you would like to get involved, please do not hesitate to contact us at .

Final release of Aspartame, Dioxins and Water Disinfectants Digests.

Is the artificial sweetener, aspartame, safe? What are the health effects of dioxins? What happens when chlorine is added to water? Three newly released Digests providing answers to these questions have been approved by the GreenFacts Scientific Board after peer review.

  • The Aspartame Digest, published in July in English, Spanish and French, is based on the opinion issued by the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Food.
  • The Dioxins Digest, released in August, summarises the Assessment of the health risk of dioxins made by the WHO's International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS).
  • The Water Disinfectants Digest has just been published. It examines the health risks of by-products from water disinfectants, based on the 2000 WHO-IPCS document.

Also during the summer, GreenFacts posted its draft Digests on Boron and Arsenic on-line in order to launch the review process. Final publication is foreseen by the end of the year.

Donate online.

GreenFacts needs support from individuals if it is to continue to provide high-quality scientific information in an accessible manner for non-specialists. It is now possible to make small contributions directly to GreenFacts via an online payment tool. For larger donations and information about individual member benefits, please contact .

The GreenFacts Q-Box available to other websites.

GreenFacts has designed a code generator which enables other websites to integrate the questions of released GreenFacts Digests directly into their sites. The tool creates an attractive "Q-Box" (Question Box), with the layout, topic and language chosen by the user. See some examples and feel free to implement Q-Boxes on your website. Contact the webmaster at for more information.
