based in Brussels communicating impartial
scientific information mainly on the web, wishes
to strengthen its young and dynamic Editorial
team.

Job description:
Editing and Project Management:
Work with the Editorial team and with external
Editors on the preparation of GreenFacts' publications, i.e. clear impartial summaries
of authoritative scientific documents on
health and environment issues presented
in a three level-structure of increasing
detail on the Internet.
- Support the selection process of upcoming
publications; potentially suggesting new topics;
investigating authoritative source documents
etc.
- Coordinate publication projects from initiation
to online release, i.e. for a given publication,
follow the contacts with editors, scientific
reviewers, peer-review coordinators, and
potential partners; ensure deadlines are
met; keep related "Planning",
"Contacts and "Panel of
Experts" listings up-to-date.
- Prepare the structure of the summaries;
after some preliminary reading of the
source document, propose a canvas of questions
to an external Editor.
- Suggest editorial and stylistic changes
to the successive drafts written by the
external Editors and work closely with
them. Ensure that the "big picture"
is always evident.
- Complement the summary texts with explanatory
glossary definitions, useful links specific
to each topic etc.
- Participate in the effective translation
and editing process of other language
versions (French, Spanish, German and/or
Dutch) in collaboration with other Editorial
team members and trainees.
Web Implementation:
Work closely with the I.T. team which takes
care of the technical aspects of the web implementation.
- Participate in all aspects of the effective
web implementation of the publications and
their translations in collaboration with
the GreenFacts IT Team (posting glossary
definitions, making cross links, providing
illustrations etc.).
- Ensure a thorough editorial quality
check of the pages which have been put
online by the I.T. team.
Requirements :
- University degree in science, preferably
in health science.
- Language skills: excellent English
(for example acquired
through studies in an English speaking
country); good working knowledge of French;
knowledge of another language such as
Dutch, German and/or Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to understand scientific
jargon and to communicate complex information
effectively in a language for the non-specialist.
- Good organizational and team working
skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Computer skills, particularly in
Word, Excel and web content management
software (or readiness to learn).
- Previous experience in the non-profit field is considered a plus.
- Entitlement to work in the European
Union.
- Preparedness to attend a face-to-face
interview in Brussels at own expense.
The job evolution may include:
- Promote GreenFacts in scientific communities
and expand its networks among universities
and scientific academies.
- Write articles to present GreenFacts
in scientific newsletters.
- Participate in networking events to
prospect for potential Scientific Board
members and to increase GreenFacts recognition
among the scientific community.
- Develop contacts with international
organizations (WHO, EU, UN
) and
follow their on-going scientific projects
in view of involving GreenFacts in these
projects.
