based in Brussels disseminating impartial
scientific information, wishes
to strengthen its communication activities,
particularly targeting journalists.
Job Title: AssitantCommunication
Officer (Dutch-speaking)
Supervisor: Jacques Wirtgen, General Manager
Mission: To
help to promote GreenFacts as major
reliable information source among Dutch-
and English-speaking journalists, opinion
leaders and decision makers. This
involves close contacts with the media,
preparing press releases and press conferences
as well as promotional material (both electronic
and paper), and tailoring the online press
room to the needs of journalists.
Main responsibilities
1.Off-line materials:
- Creating off-line promotional material such as brochures, reports and other printed matter based on existing formats.
- Arranging or contributing to the translation of those materials
- Liaising with designers and printers about printed matters, supervising the production.
- Contributing to the distribution of those materials
2. Media relations:
- Drafting press releases, newsletters and articles on GreenFacts and the subjects of its publications.
- Maintaining a database of journalists and media organizations
- Based on a GreenFacts Communication Plan that will soon be adopted by the Board, and under supervision of the DG, implement an action plan to contact relevant media and individual journalists.
- Screening GreenFacts' presence in the media, preparing regular press review for staff, management and Board.
Working closely with all members of GreenFacts
team in order to adapt to the inhouse requirements
and style, suggest improvements when needed,
and ensure the timely promotion of GreenFacts'
publications.
3. Events:
- Contributing to the organisation of occasional GreenFacts conferences and events.
4. Internet Communication:
- Managing/contributing to the translation in Dutch of designated parts of the website
- Contributing to improving the visibility of GreenFacts' and its publications on the web.
- Contributing to the continuing development of GreenFacts' website, especially the press room, in terms of communicational content, structure, and design.
- Supporting activities to reach and bind target audiences.
These activities will be supported by GreenFacts' editors, the IT team, the Partnership and Fundraising Team, under the supervision of the DG.
Possible other responsibilities
- Contributing to building a network of journalists and media organizations and maintain close personal contacts.
- Meeting journalists and helping organise press conferences.
- Participating in some external events and conferences organized by third parties.
- Organizing qualitative analyses of the website and its use by journalists.
- Proposing opportunities for increasing GreenFacts' visibility.
- Assisting the General Manager & CEO, the President and Vice-Presidents in their public relations activities.
- Promoting GreenFacts among stakeholder groups.
- Participating in networking activities to prospect for potential partners.
Knowledge and skills required
- University degree or equivalent, preferably in communication.
- Relevant work experience in press or public relations.
- Work experience with non profit organizations would be a plus.
- Proven writing skills, both on-line and off-line.
- Articulate in verbal communication.
- Language skills:
- Dutch mother tongue or mother tongue level;
- Excellent command of English;
- Good understanding of spoken and written French (minimum);
- Knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
- Experience in Internet communication.
- Excellent team working skills, good organisational and social skills.
Working conditions
This vacant position is mainly based in
GreenFacts' offices in Brussels, close to
public transportation. It may imply occasional
travel, as well as evening and weekend work.
