GreenFacts' Funding Sources
As a service to society, we aim to reach a maximum audience.
Therefore, our websites
are available for free, and we need to rely on external funding.
In accordance with our funding
rules, our income now comes from several sources:
- Private sector
- Contracts fees
- Public subsidies
- Foundation grants
- Donations
- and Membership fees.
Private sector
We propose three forms of Funding Partnerships.

See
our list of Corporate Partners.
Contracts
This category covers the following possibilities:
- Funding from public authorities directed to specific GreenFacts
Digests or their translation.
- Contracts with international organizations for the production of GreenFacts Digests summarizing
their own scientific reports (upon approval
of our Scientific Board). So far, we had such contracts with WHO, FAO, and CBD.
- Contracts with independent third-party organizations for the production of GreenFacts Co-Publications.
- Contributions to the cost of printing and distributing paper versions of our publications.
- With the agreement of our Boards, we can contract our know-how or
licence our web-communication
tools, such as our Three-Level Structure,
to our Partner organizations that
want to communicate complex reports to a non-specialist audience.
- Other contracted work, such as translations or consultancy work. For instance, we were contracted by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment to translate two of their reports.
Public Subsidies
This category covers only structural funding from governmental institutions and international organizations (such as WHO, UNEP, FAO, CBB...).
See our list of Public Partners.
Foundation grants
So far, we have received a grant from Foundation HARAFI, a Swiss
foundation which notably promotes sustainable fishing practices.
Donations
Many individuals and organizations have expressed their support
to our publications
and activities by making a financial gift.
